Dramatized from Sarah Waters’ acclaimed debut novel, “Tipping the Velvet” tells the story of Nancy Astley (Rachael Stirling), a young girl who works as cook and waitress in her Father’s seaside restaurant. Just like everybody else, Nancy has a happy family and a handsome boyfriend. However, Nancy always wonders what missing in her relationship, until when Nancy is invited to the theatre where Kitty works. She immediately is attracted to Kitty – a beautiful singer with singing style of a boy. Nancy falls for Kitty so hard that she can’t take her eyes off her. Nancy becomes Kitty’s loyal fan. She goes to the theatre every night to see Kitty’s performance. She accepts to be Kitty’s assistant to narrow their distance.
Thanks to Kitty talent, she is invited to perform in London theatre. Nancy decides to leave her family behind to go with Kitty and help her with her carrier. One time, accidentally Kitty realizes that Nancy can sing and that she feels the same for Nancy. Soon they become a perfect duet on stage. However, Nancy’s happiness doesn’t last so long. Kitty dumps her for her manager. Does Kitty really love Nancy?
